Treatments for Coughs
There are many different types of coughs, and these should be treated specifically
with reference to their nature and intensity. However, the cider vinegar and honey
treatment seems to help all coughs to some extent.
Tickly cough:
Two teaspoons of cider vinegar and two teaspoons of honey mixed with a
glassful of water should be taken when the irritation occurs - this apparently works best if taken during a meal.
However, in the evening it would be a very good idea to have this mixture by your bed so that it can be sipped during the night as needed.
Chesty cough:
If you are really brave, or desperate, to relieve your cough, you could try this one.
Relieve the cough by mixing half a cup of apple cider vinegar, half a cup of water, one teaspoon of cayenne pepper, and four teaspoons of
honey. Take a tablespoon when the cough starts and another tablespoon at bedtime for optimal results.
For all coughs, especially when you have a cold or flu:
This remedy is a delicious and soothing Cherry Cough Syrup.
Honey is the magic ingredient, but the cherries and lemon add Vitamin C - which is great for combatting a cold.
Use:
500g x Cherries (leave the pips in)
1 x Lemon, sliced
250ml x Honey
Put all the ingredients in a pan with enough water to cover and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the cherries are soft.
Remove from the heat and strain out the solids, then cool.
Take 2 tablespoons as needed to soothe coughing. This recipe will store well and keeps for several days in the fridge.
